I'll be attending at least one, possibly two, of the Celebration of Light fireworks display in downtown Vancouver. ("Symphony of Fire" was a more exciting name). As in previous years, Illuminares is holding alternative to corporate-sponsored exploding things, or 'unfireworks', if you will. (Add "un" to the start of a noun and you double its coolnes factor. Unless the word already starts with 'un', then the coolness factor halves.) Partly due to cheating—okay, fine, I'm not really that big of a snob—but also the opportunity to spend the evening on top of a friend's roof on Saturday while cooking meat and drinking frosty beverages, I'll have to pass on Illuminares. Is anybody skipping out on the fireworks this year in favour of Illuminares?
