SkyTrain Arrives at Brentwood Station
SkyTrain security, as I entered the station, told me that photos were "for home use only". Next time they tell me that I'm going to ask them what that means.

Ask them to tell you exactly where it says that. Unless it is cited specifically in the by laws - or displayed on the Terms and Conditions notice at stations - it has no force. And yes I have search the Translink website and not found anything there, but that's not a surprise. The last time I worked on revising the Transit Tariff, it wasn't in there either.
If you are on public land you can take any pictures you like. On Translink property they may require you to get permission for commercial photography - but that is simply a "policy" which is nowhere defined and can be interpreted widely.
I did a documentary on surveillance with a university class in Commercial station and was asked to produce a 'letter' giving me permission. I will definitely keep Stephen's comments in mind if I'm ever in such a situation again.
There are a couple of threads on the Flickr Vancouver group about taking photos at SkyTrain stations, but they're more about the people at the stations than the stations/trains themselves (I don't take photos of people at stations).

Could you ask the stationmaster?
